The Six Principles of Gestalt

Containment

  1. Containment: This is a photo of a little zombie head contained inside of the metal container I found in my room. It shows the boundary of the container around the little zombie head.

    Continuation

    2. Continuation: This photo of the sidewalk outside of the Student Center shows the continuation of the sidewalk as well as lets us as viewers follow the path.

    Closure

    3. Closure: By not showing the whole object in the photo, it is up to the viewer to fill in the blanks and (hopefully) realize that this is a spooky pumpkin decoration.

    Repetition

    4. Repetition: This photo of the upper level windows of the Student Center show repetition in the way the windows show a similar pattern along the building.

    Similarity

    5. Similarity: All of these plants when closely inspected are different from each other as far as length of branches and size, but from farther away they all look relatively similar.

    Proximity

    6. Proximity: By taking this picture of the trees and sun from this angle, it looks as if all of the photos are all close in proximity, making them seem to all be a part of the same group.
